General Journal 08.10.2023
Oct. 8th, 2023 05:48 pmOkay, so the past week was amazing, but I had zero time for myself, so right now I'm procrastinating summarising an academic magazine and listening to my song on repeat to try and force myself to do something you know?
Here it is, brand new, by the way:
I spent entirely too long on this... especially on the subtitles.
Anyways, yes, University! University of Białystok is an unbelievably welcoming institution. People there are nice. Multiple professors have roasted politicians, gaining my infinite respect, and I got some reading recommendations, like Martin Amis's "Time's Arrow: or the Nature of the Offence". I hope it will be as good to read, as was the short excerpt my prof showed us.
I also need to find time to read Apology of Socrates as we're going to discuss it during my philosophy class.
I have decided I will excel in this university, and I see nothing stopping me, aside maybe from the constrict of time and me being prone to procrastination... Oh well.
Right now, the paper I'm procrastinating on, is called "Finding God(s) in Fantasylands: Religious Ideas in Fantasy Literature" by Weronika Łaszkiewicz. It's really interesting, I just don't want to summarise it lol
But! I'm gonna try my best to summarise it casually here, maybe it will help me summarise it for my homework in a more serious style?
Basically, the author analyses how different literary works interact with religion (mostly Christianity, I think the author might be Christian) either as an allegory, critique or creating a secondary religion based on existing ones.
I think I might have chosen a wrong article, because its thesis isn't clear, and the text is all over the place, for example it is mentioned that Harry Potter might influence children to follow occult practices... and then it's not mentioned again. It is also: Not True in my opinion. Generally the whole paper was too Christian in my opinion. I will have to word it somehow... sigh. Literally the only good fragment was about C. S. Lewis and The Narnia Chronicles.
...I got distracted. Oops? In my defence I've been sitting over this paper for several hours and it's making me lose my mind.
Wish me luck and also time.
